Historical Newspaper Collection
The J.A. Freitas Library holds the most complete collection of Portuguese newspapers published in California, dating as far back as 1885. It is a unique source of valuable information on the contributions of the Portuguese in the state of California.
The collection is housed in the PFSA Cultural Center in San Leandro where it is available for consultation.
This resource will allow you to research for information on community news, births, marriages and obituaries in the newspapers and help you with your geneology research. Thanks to a partnership with the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, it is available in digital format

Ships Logs
We also have available for consultation in our Library copies of the Ship Logs that brought Portuguese Immigrants to Hawaii dating back as far as 1878.
